Here we enter classic Fighting Fantasy; Legend of Zagor. This is the twentieth book in the successful Fighting Fantasy gamebook series, this time written entirely by Ian Livingstone. It is set in in the kingdom of Amarillia and introduces us once again to the dark and dangerous Zagor.

Book Description: Zagor! The very name of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain strikes terror into all who hear it. Banished from the world of Titan, the sorcerer is slowly but surely regaining his strength. Within Castle Argent, in the kingdom of Amarillia, Zagor has been transformed into a demon. Such is his power, he must be destroyed. There are several adventurers willing to volunteer – mighty Anvar the barbarian, the warrior Braxus, Stubble the dwarf, Sallazar the wizard – but only one will be chosen. Are YOU that hero?

The evil sorcerer Zagor is back to cause more trouble. It seems that he is rather impatient at sending people to their death, as he doesn't stay dead long. That is why this time he has to be more than killed! This time he will be even tougher and one mistake will see you plunge to an untimely death.

The problem started when there was a transferring of demons between worlds. Unfortunately a loophole existed and Zagor managed to cross from the world of Titan to the world of Amarillia where this adventure is set. Of course, they were not prepared for the occurrence and it rests to one of four brave adventurers to take on the challenge. Here's where things get good! This is the only Fighting Fantasy adventure where you get to choose between four characters, all with pre-determined initial scores. This in itself is a popular idea!

You can actually choose from a barbarian, warrior, dwarf or wizard. There is a different way through the book for each type of adventurer and different tasks that they each need to complete. Each adventurer has different attributes and one way that is good for the barbarian will no doubt lead to certain death for the wizard. There is a large emphasis on the collection of talismans that will in turn weaken Zagor for the final battle. These are locked in chests throughout Castle Argent, the place where Zagor has taken the form of an evil demon.

This time you have to destroy Zagor once and for all. Rather than lazily killing him like you other great adventurers have done in the past, you must now burn his spirit deep down in the castle. There will be no easy route through this, and rumours are abound that sort of demon from the old wars is serving him. Clearly, getting past that will be no easy task. There are also many hideous monsters littered throughout the castle that are likely to see you succumb to your death with a few dangerous blows.
