Here we enter classic Fighting Fantasy; Return to Firetop Mountain. This is the sixteenth book in the successful Fighting Fantasy gamebook series, this time written entirely by Ian Livingstone. It is set once again in the popular setting of Allansia and is a sequel to Firetop Mountain.

Book Description: The kingdom of Allansia is under threat. Agglax the evil Zombie-Lord is amassing an army of undead warriors in eastern Allansia, beyond the Forest of Fiends. His army increases in size with every attack on the local villages and every day its ranks are swelled with slaughtered victims under Agglax’s evil spell. Unless they are stopped now, the undead will take over the entire kingdom.

YOU are Allansia’s only hope. Your mission is to raise an army which will defeat the terrifying undead troops… but how can you conquer an army which grows in numbers with every battle it fights?

Part-story, part-game, this is a book with a difference - one in which you become the hero! A pencil and an eraser are all you need to make your journey. YOU decide which route to take, which creatures to fight and which dangers to risk.

It had to happen. Warlocks that use dark magic don't die that easily. Set ten years after Zagor was slain inside Firetop Mountain, life around Firetop Mountain has been quiet. Lately however, things have started to change. The village of Anvil lives in terror, as hideous beasts are rumoured to leave the mountain and take villagers back inside. It is rumoured that Zagor has returned and he's building himself a body bit by bit. The other signs are not good either. The famous red top of the mountain has turned a deathly black. There is only one conclusion!

When you are in Anvil looking for adventure and step into the Two Moons, all goes silent. The story is then told and you promptly volunteer to take up the task at hand. You will venture into the mountain alone to face the deadly beasts and evil sorcerer. You have no idea how tough the traps and creatures will be this time, but you can be sure that Zagor will not be unwary of brave adventurers any more.

Moose, the landowner of the Two Moons, tells you to seek out Yaztromo. The famous magician will be able to help you on your way as he possesses unequalled prowess in the power of magic for the good. However, a journey to the South of Darkwood Forest would take valuable time. Is it really worth it? Maybe, but when news comes of two trackers speeding away towards the mountain your thoughts are only to dispose of them initially.

Getting into Firetop Mountain once again is no easy task. This time you'll have to negotiate the paths towards it with great skill first, and if you meet the right people your task might become somewhat easier. Still, once you do get there you'll encounter all the traps and monsters that you would expect from a dungeon type adventure.

In perhaps one of the most awaited book ever in the Fighting Fantasy series, Ian Livingstone hits a winner again. How could he fail with a return to one of the most successful gamebook settings ever? It is a typical Ian Livingstone-style book and you can expect to have to overcome tough monsters, devious traps and an overall object finding hunt that will take you to every inch below the mountain.
