Welcome Adventurers' to the FIGHTING FANTASY : Beyond the Pit. This area of the Official Fighting Fantasy website has been created as an ongoing project to present the entire resource of all Fighting Fantasy related monsters and encounters in the series past and present.
Through this alphabetical index, you can explore all the entries held in Beyond the Pit.
HABITAT: Ocean, Sea
NUMBER ENCOUNTERED: 1
SPECIAL SKILLS: See below
These hideous behemoth dwell in the deep trenches of the Ocean and are so rarely seen that they have acquired an almost mythical status. Known as the Decapi, and also the Old Ones these ten-legged towering monsters look like a hideous cross between a monstrous crustacean and giant octopus with a writhing mass of coiling tentacles and two huge, pincher-claws.
Abyssal Horrors are a writhing mass of tentacles and snapping crustacean claws.
If encountered on a Seaday or during the months of Reaping, Hiding or Close you may increase the SKILL and STAMINA of the Abyssal Horror by 1 point. Adventurers born in the months of Reaping, Hiding or Close, however, are predominantly influenced by the elements of water and in this situation Abyssal Horrors receive no increase. If encountered on a Fireday, the Abyssal Horrors SKILL and STAMINA are reduced by 1 point.
Frightening and intelligent, the Abyssal Horror has one large single watery eye that intently watches for food.
During a battle, if you lose an Attack Round, roll 1D6 and consult the table below to see what damage is inflicted, (You may use LUCK to reduce damage caused in the usual way).
Attack and Damage Table
| Dice Roll
|| Crushing Claws
|| The creature strikes you with one of its snapping pinchers. Lose 2 Stamina points.
|| Tentacle twist
|| the monster grabs you with a rubbery tentacle. The tentacle only inflicts 1 STAMINA point of damage, but for the next Attack Round you must fight with your Attack Strength reduced by 1 as you fight to free yourself from its clutches.
|| Snapping beak
||If the horror already has a hold of you it drags you into its beaked mouth and bites down hard; roll 1d6 and lose that many STAMINA points. However, if the monster doesn’t already have hold of you in its grasp roll again on the table for damage; if you roll a 6 a second time the creature bites you in the way described.
